We realize moving away from older versions of Skype is an inconvenience and we’re sorry for that. We wouldn’t be moving everyone forward if it wasn’t absolutely necessary. Watch this site for news about features we’re adding to the current version of Skype and reach out to @SkypeSupport on Twitter if you need help getting settled in the new app.

Thanks all for all the comments and votes around this topic.

Either in an attempt to avoid confrontation in the two biggest threads on this site or just general buffoonery, the admins have made a new thread today asking for features we want.

Discord spies on user data and sells it to their business partners, it is in their terms of service.
Discord is not safe for users and not a viable option.

In addition to the attention drawn to the topic, it would seem that our voices have drawn the attention of Skype's current design director, Mark Swift, back to Twitter at @swift_one

I encourage anyone who cares strongly to politely tweet at him in the hopes of both improving communication and making our voices be heard.

The more research I conduct, the more I'm convinced that moving us WASN'T necessary and that you did so out of sheer laziness.

The facts are that there was a problem with the back end code (YOUR side of the code) that was not up to new GDPR regulations in the EU and that is the reported reason for the forced update.

However more and more it looks like Electron, the program the new awful Skype is built on, did not have that problem and you just pushed us all to it because it was easier!

YOU SHOULD HAVE FIXED THE CODE ON YOUR END TO ALLOW US TO USE THE FAR SUPERIOR PROGRAM RATHER THAN TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT AND DISSATISFY ALL YOUR USERS, PETR!

    Shame on you all!

Discord is an untrustworthy company that sells user data to make back its 20 million dollar initial investor startup. You should not use Discord if you do not want the program watching all the functions of your computer while it is running.

I do not care about what minor security reason you ostensibly have for forcing this update like you have. Skype 8 is utterly unusable compared to Skype 7 and none of us who care should be forced to update to an inferior version!

Heard of more people getting the update forced on them in the dead of the night last night. Microsoft ruined at least one Christmas.

Calling it something as tame as "an inconvenience" is an insult. Some of us make our livelihood and socialize on Skype and version 8 is more like a crippling broken leg than "an inconvenience".

I agree that an official statement is WELL past due, this level of ferocious uproar will only increase until then.

We hear you. We love Skype version 7 too. We’re working to build the Skype experience you’ve come to depend on for so long on today’s platforms for today’s user. It would be impossible to bring back the full catalog of features available in previous versions of Skype all at once, our engineering systems just don’t work that way. We are committed to evolving the current Skype experience to match your needs over time. As we release new Skype features, we’ll update this site. You can also follow @Skype and @SkypeInsider on Twitter for the latest news too.
Thank you all for your feedback.

Petr, tell your bosses that the more time we spend with Skype 8 and examine it, the less we believe you could even GET the version 7 features into it, let alone do so in a timely manner. It's been A LITERAL YEAR and you don't have split view, emoji disabling, or something as utterly basic as FONT SIZE CHOICES. I guess making Alexa compatibility is more of a worry than usability.

Bring back Skype Classic, scuttle Skype 8 except for mobile devices, try again in 3 years with Skype 9 and actually listen to your userbase instead of your own insulated community of devs and insiders.

Posting again as its relevant. https://skype.uservoice.com/forums/914527-welcome-to-skype-ideas/suggestions/36538813-update-the-back-end-of-skype-7-to-make-it-compatib

We know you're reading all these negative reactions, Petr. By now an explanation for all this is long past due.

I'm beginning to see people saying that they would pay either a price or subscription fee to be able to continue to use Skype Classic. I think that's how one knows Skype 8 is about as liked as a lead balloon.

I invite everyone who feels strongly about the issue of full feature parity or at least being able to use Classic until feature parity is achieved to tweet the @Skype account on Twitter to let them know how serious this is for you.

It does seem that Microsoft is quick to act once outrage becomes public, now all we have to do is figure out which Twitter account to get noticed by and how exactly to do that. Any pointers?

If being annoying is what it takes to get the service to a usable state and allows me to live my life the way I'd like to, then that's what I'll do. I suppose all of us should endeavor to be annoying on Twitter then.

Sean was able to get a direct line of communication to them somehow, there must be some way we can do the same to make our voices more aggressively heard.

It's very interesting if the Skype Twitter is open to having DM conversations with users.
In your opinion, how open do you think they would be to hearing from more of us? I feel that there can be no downside to them hearing about needed features or an extension on Skype 7 from too many sources.

I've been over at the Skype forum topic on this for a week now over at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/skype/forum/all/more-info-on-the-update-to-skype-version-8/9cbb5e0d-9305-44f1-8c2a-1e73a7646ef0?

In two days, the article has gotten over 2000 views and 100 more comments, all echoing that the functionality for Skype 8 is AWFUL. Please, Microsoft, we all urge you to if nothing else just clone the UI and functionality of Skype 7, and if you can't make that happen by your own ill-advised deadline, then don't force this frankly inferior product upon us.

Thank you all for sharing your ideas! We have a lot of great feedback from you and we really appreciate it! We love the passion!
We used to categorize your submissions with lists of multiple requests, however we’re overwhelmed now. Going forward we will only accept submissions with single requests. It will help us to better prioritize which features we will work on next and understand what is most important for you.

Thanks for joining our community and helping improve Skype!

How about you acknowledge the ideas with thousands of votes a piece and fix the **** back end code for Skype 7 so we can use it again?
That should be your ONLY priority.
It's been a year and you've delivered none of the most requested features. Skype 8 is a big fat wash.

They should start with bringing back the copy/paste quote system and expand from there. The current copy/paste system is so barebones that it hurts.
