We hear you. We love Skype version 7 too. We’re working to build the Skype experience you’ve come to depend on for so long on today’s platforms for today’s user. It would be impossible to bring back the full catalog of features available in previous versions of Skype all at once, our engineering systems just don’t work that way. We are committed to evolving the current Skype experience to match your needs over time. As we release new Skype features, we’ll update this site. You can also follow @Skype and @SkypeInsider on Twitter for the latest news too.
Thank you all for your feedback.

Imagine the furore that would result if Ford brought a new model to market and told buyers that they are listening to users to make this new model the best yet, that they have introduced a smiley face that pops up when you hit the horn... and also that they didn't have time to implement all the features of the old model, but they're working on them and welcome feedback.
Now imagine that they responded to customer suggestions and complaints in the way Microsoft are doing over Skype8...

    User: There's no radio!
Ford: It wasn't compatible with the new dashboard but we're working on ways to introduce all the features you love,

User: the seats are hard plastic and uncomfortable!
Ford: You must remember that change is inevitable as we move forward and that some things are very difficult to implement into the new chassis.

    User: The clock doesn't work!
Ford: Are you using Model 8.41.241ForConcrete? Tha clock is only painted on in that model. Model 8.41.241ForAsphalt has a clock that works, whil 8.41.241ForDirtTrack doesn't have a clock at all.

User: I love the way the badge lights up on the front!
Ford: Great! Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate you taking the time to contact us and we always take feedback on board! By the way, have you tried the horn yet? You can let everyone know your experience on twitter using the hashtag #clueless

    Bull.
If your engineering systems don't work that way, features are impossible to implement and will never arrive.
If you can't implement them all at once, then you did a half-ars*ed job and only managed a pitiful few before deadline.

Oh, and please stop using the term "Skypoe experience" when referring to product improvements.
"Fixes to the software" would be more accurate description of what you're apparently working on.

What happened was Mobile Internet Access.
MS saw that Apple, Samsung, HTC, Google et al had the vast majority of internet access share because most interactions (not data usage) were on mobile devices using IOS & Android on their default inbuilt browsers - just as PC users did when IE was bundled with Windows.

Since then, they have been copying those OSes to PCs and Laptops in an attempt to get users to also adopt a Windows based mobile device. They have thought up UWP (Universal Windows Platform) in order to make these mobile and desk/laptop "experiences" identical and therefore making users immediately comfortable with them.
Of course, this only works if people buy mobile devices with a Windows OS and this has spectacularly failed at each attempt.

Since the last days of XP and the introdution of Vista, MS has also been on a 'Simplifying' trip. Removing options, changing UIs, restricting customization, in order to, on one hand make everyone's installation similar, and on the other make configuration settings simpler by just not having many to confuse people.
We're talking about the people who didn't know what the copy/paste toolbar buttons were and had to go look for them in the menu every time, leading MS's usage tracking results to weight this heavily and we end up with the massive SNAFU that is the 'Ribbon'.

Now, since Apple don't like any sort of user control, IOS is filled with apps (cut-down applications) with a get-what-we-give-you attitude that, as Apple fan-boys constantly point out, just work.
MS has decided that this is the way forward for them and has now seemingly decided that making their apps look like IOS/Android products will encourage people to use them on their other devices too - the similarity making it easier for users to operate on their desk/laptops.
Hence the 'slide' on/off button switches & the close button at top left in options panels and the left/right justication in the chat window.

MS has become so fixated with the mobile market that they have all but abandoned other users. I wonder if they've ever been into any general office and seen the number of desktops on desks. There are millions of jobs where a desktop PC with a full-sized keyboard is the best value, most efficient and healthiest (minimizing carpal-tunnel-syndrome) solution. How much work can an accounts office get done with an on-screen keyboard and endless scrolling?

So we can thank the OSes of Apple & Google and the innovations of the mobile internet sector for making our lives worse when it comes to The Windows Experience.

    RIP Skype.

With only a week to go until you see Skype usage plummet due to the forced update, have you got anything more concrete to tell us than your linked two-month-old article?
I mean, have you even started discussing which of the non- 'top priority' feedback requests to work on first?

I'm not holding my breath here because you are not listening at all otherwise there would be a response to this, the MOST VOTED SUGGESTION.

Latest comments regarding the developement of one "app" for several different platforms are bang on the money and actually point to the heart of the issue not just with Skype, but with Microsoft's vision as a whole.

The muppets in charge of the future of everything Microsoft develops are so fixated on the phone & tablet market, due to the prevalence of these devices being used to access social media, that they think everyone is using them for everything on the internet.

They don't understand that all businesses use computers and none of them give all their employees phones, tablets or Surface devices to do their work. The predominantly install desktops because they are cheaper (and give MUCH more of a bang for the buck) and they allow their employees to work faster with full-sized independant keyboards and precision pointing devices.

These allegedly visionary people don't understand that most, if not all workers have multiple programs and windows concurrently open and are constantly switching between them.

They don't realise that working in an app designed for a 7"-12" touchscreen means constant scrolling through a sea of white-space past massive icons, buttons and images when using even a 19" monitor.

They can't get a handle on the need to arrange the size and/or position of several programs' windows for fluid productivity.

I use and recommend ClassicShell for Windows 8/10 desktops because none of us really wants a 22" widescreen phone display on our desks.

This is why software will not change for the better at Microsoft.
Android and IOS are now the alpha males of internet usage and MS suits believe they need to get some of that action.
They believe that if they imitate the 'app' philosophy - jump on its bandwagon, if you like - then they'll attract these users back.
They don't understand that the internet use of IOS & Android is in a completely different context to PC users' and therefore dismiss them as luddites; afraid of and resistant to change because they can't see the future. They don't see that PC users are also IOS and Andriod users accessing social media sites on their mobile devices as well as their PCs.

Microsoft don't know what they want to do with Skype.
They know they want to grab back some of the action that Whatsapp and Snapchat grabbed without realising that they've gradually been making Skype less useful, less intuitive and that they're actually driving users away to other platforms.

    RIP Skype.

I want to be able to change so many settings.
    - I want to see just a simple list of Skype contacts (online people at the top) and not have them separated by letters as if I don't know the alphabet. I don't want to have to click a tab and option to get it every time it starts, either.
    - I want to be able to change the ringing tonne away from this pre-schooler's rubbish.
    - I want a choice of font/size.
    - I want some useful representation in the mic adjustment tool instead of those stupid dots.
    - I want all the options back from the version you told us was for desktops, before you replaced it with this touchscreen-centric pile of doggy-doo.
    - I want you to stop telling us you've listened to us because you obviously don't.
    - I want you to stop adding fluffy crap and stop taking useful features out.

Most of all I really wish you would take a look at the prtoduct as it was before you bought it, compare it to the trash it has become and put it all right again.

The time is right for someone - perhaps the original Skype coders - to bring out something we can all use. Something simple, configurable, unbloated and worth the money I would willingly pay on behalf of all my family to be able to talk to them regularly again. My mother (250 miles away) hasn't called me on Skype since this astrocious excuse of an upgrade because you've botched it so badly she hasn't got a clue what she's even looking at.

MS, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

2½ months after this idea was posted in response to a thread being edited and wrongly marked as completed, which people are STILL posting to... and not even an acknowledgement from the team.

If this doesn't tell us that MS only has feedback areas so they can in some way justify some of their changes, then nothing does.

Skype people, you are completely wasting everyone's time. If you're not going to listen and act on user feedback then you might as well remove these areas of customer interaction and spend the money on stuffing up all of your other products too.

    Renaming idea titles is reprehensible.
I agree that the title has been edited otherwise I wouldn't have laid into Petr as I did when he maked it as completed.

Petr, you are a complete ***. Ask to be transferred to a deaprtment where the public won't have to interact with you and can forget about you.

Don't you DARE mark this as "completed" without any pertinent changes being made, Petr.

Won't be easy to do this if they're only programming once and building that for each platform since global hotkeys are hard to implement on mobiles and tablets.

Thank you all for sharing your ideas! We have a lot of great feedback from you and we really appreciate it! We love the passion!
We used to categorize your submissions with lists of multiple requests, however we’re overwhelmed now. Going forward we will only accept submissions with single requests. It will help us to better prioritize which features we will work on next and understand what is most important for you.

Thanks for joining our community and helping improve Skype!

I wouldn't worry about it, you little weasel.
None of you have been honest in the slightest.
I don't use Skype any more. I'm not the first to dump it and you can bet your house on the fact that there will be more than a few thousands to come.
The whole Skype team have been arrogant and insulting in their responses to ALL concerns and 90% of 'ideas' on this forum.

Some of will remember and continue to remind you all of the fact that you edited a suggestion to match your change because you only half-implemented it.

Good bye and good riddance to bad rubbish.

There's only one relevant option here - whether to implement resizing or not.
If it is not possible to implement it then stop p*ssing about and say so.

The goal of coding once for all platforms will only limit the possibilities of any software.
You have only yourselves to blame for all the bad feeling and poor press toward you since going after the portable/mobile market with Win8.
