@Koi, it's also a little weird in the sense that it sometimes doesn't work. Once in a while, another character adjacent to the special characters (like underscore) will confuse Skype, and the formatting will not happen. You then have to edit the message and add a space.

Now they need to work on allowing us to specify where they should go. Going here isn't helpful:

    C:\Users\Win User Name\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.SkypeApp_kzf8qxf38zg5c\LocalCache\FileCache

You mean instead of this easy-to-find location?

And give us a way to yellow-highlight parts of messages. Sometimes bolding isn't enough to get someone's attention. Yellow highlighting is simple to do with HTML or CSS.

Thank you all for the feedback. We are continuously working to improve the quality of Skype. Please feel free to report any crashes or performance issues on answers.microsoft.com including steps that lead to a crash so that the community can help troubleshoot the issue.

I noticed that starting with 8.55, Skype now uses 6 processes instead of 4. This is common for other Electron apps, like Teams, but I wonder what the improvement is specifically by doing this.

In other words, for using more memory, what are we getting, exactly?

"They have rewritten skype in uwp only to replace it again with a web app"

UWP *is* essentially a Web app (and by this you mean Electron). So this is a distinction without much of a difference.

And I don't think we necessarily have to give up on a Skype Electron (or Skype UWP), because look at Discord. It doesn't have the performance issues (like CPU) that Skype does...yet it's Electron. So...this suggests that MS is just doing it wrong. Discord even wrote about this topic recently:

@Alexmitter, but Discord, the perfect analog for Skype, does not. So explain that. They even wrote about it recently:

RE "Don't hold your breath" -- Discord is Electron. It doesn't do this. CHROME doesn't even do this. So I think that argument is out the window, so to speak.

Dating back to at least Dec 2017 (earliest thread I found), though probably to the first Skype 8, it's used an abnormal amount of CPU for itself. This lag leads to making the program seem slow, and can also impact the performance of everything else on the system.

If you keep Task Manager open on the side, you'll see Skype jump to (depending on the system) 20-50% or more when doing things like:

    -Typing a message

-Clicking around in the UI, pretty much anywhere in the program

-Sometimes just moving the mouse OVER the UI without even clicking anything

-Scrolling back in history (this one is especially bad)

    Tested in Win10

Some of the most consistent feedback we’ve received from you, our most dedicated users, has to do with sounds and how you are notified about the goings on in Skype 8. We are deeply interested in meeting your needs, and we need your help prioritizing the work we will dive into and the order in which we will accomplish it.

Please be honest with how badly you need these options. We understand that all of these things are important. By rating something lower than another item, you won’t remove it from our To Do list, but rather we’ll get your MUST DOs done first.

In the survey for the scale options please rank how important each item is for you. With 1 being not very important to you and 5 being very important.

    Thank you
    Petr
