Pls communicate Skype’s Unique Value Proposition over Google Talk or WhatsApp. I think it’s “customer not product” but not sure...
I am paying $6.50/mo for a US number with unlimited incoming calls and $2.99/mo for unlimited outbound to the US. Almost $120/yr and then sms texts are over $.10 a pop undermining the value of the phone number as what use is a phone in 2019 without a viable accompanying text feature?
WhatsApp does this for free. Google as well. But I don’t like the intrusiveness of WhatsApp and Google’s model is clearly trading personal profile data for shiny services.
My perception is that Skype has greater respect for ones data; but even then I’m not sure.
If not, then why the $120/yr with exorbitant texting privileges?
I, as a consumer, would like to have a simple, clear, concise, transparent communication of what makes Skype differentiated from these other outfits that are dramatically cheaper.
I assume there has to be some salient reason.
And I’m not saying this in adversarial manner - I actually just want justification to reinforce my decision to use Skype in lieu of Google products.
But I do need to know why I shouldn’t feel foolish throwing money down the drain.
Especially with the high-fee sms anachronism (on a VOIP service no less that could ostensibly run it all to a domestic sms hub via data lines)..I do wonder why I’m still using the service and haven’t gone elsewhere.
