Hello Andrea. Thank you for the feedback.
History older than a year is only stored locally on your machine and is not backed up in the cloud. But you can export the history file from Skype and save it to your computer.
To find out how to do it, check out this link: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34841/updating-to-the-latest-version-of-skype
The link on how to export older (or any) history you mentioned doesn't seem to explain how to actually do it. How do you accomplish that on Mac Desktop? Where is that information stored on a user's machine? (Or where SHOULD it be stored? Skype 8 seems to have a new scheme of necessary System files).
I don't want to be forced to store anything in the cloud. Why won't MS let me back up Skype chats locally?
I've invested in terabyte drives and want to keep my backups local.
It would have been so nice and respectful if someone in the new Skype world of software pushers had warned us that this would happen, and given us a chance to back up the chats BEFORE the upgrade was forced into our lives and all evidence was forever erased. Oops!
This is the kind of treatment you'd expect from hackers and enemies.
Seconded. I want to be able to see all my history in Skype, in the existing chats regardless of them being one day or 5 years old. If its stored in my pc already I can't see why not.
I never asked for the cloud, the previous local sorage of the history was perfect! I understand that MS can't keep in the cloud the history from the beginning of time for eavery user, but, please, since I never asked for cloud, leave me free to choose the local storage. It is very annoying this attitude of changing things when they were already working fine.
