Skype 7 features most important for Skype 8.
Just a few of the features I feel need to come to Skype 8 from Skype 7 for me to want to use it, from the perspective of someone who mostly texts chats.
-MOST IMPORTANT: Ability to defer your update wave to Skype 8 until the features you wish to see are implemented. This was discussed by the previous design director, Peter Skillman, and is a fantastic idea.
-Ability to disable automatic updates.
-Ability to disable advanced text formatting options like bold or italics.
-Ability to resize the chat and contact sidebar (My personal golden area is 650-ish total window width and 250 contact bar width)
-Ability to place contacts bar on the side of the main window
-Sorting the recent conversation list by date instead of one large jumbled mass
-Bringing recent conversations to the top of the list after any activity, such as loading previous messages, instead of messages sent.
-Ability to turn off the "Person is typing" message when a conversation partner is typing.
-More compact chat window by being able to disable a person's picture in the chat window and just have their name
-Ability to disable web previews in chat from links
-Making it easy to run multiple accounts at once, such as a personal and professional account.
As of right now, Skype for web is an excellent example of how Skype 8 SHOULD be. Bringing that framework and structure over to the desktop application while also not forcing us to update to it until the features we want are added would be a very welcome sight, and would no doubt build a great deal of trust both with Microsoft and the Skype brand.
I invite anyone reading this to add the features they find most important in the comments and thank you for your time.
