When clicking on images in Skype, open in default picture viewer
When I receive images / pictures on Skype now, I used to be able to click on them and it would open in my default picture viewer so I could view it correctly, full-screen and be able to zoom, print etc.
Now... it takes me away from the chat area and displays the image in Skype. For a useability point-of-view, this is now useless. Most images I get are larger so the scaled down version cannot be seen correctly. I have to then "right-click" and "Open" to view the image in my default picture viewer.
This is a huge step backwards for me and in this form, is not useful and very long-winded.
As a developer myself, if I had tested this, I would have put this back for refactoring and told the devs to change this.
Please consider changing this back please.
I had the same problem, that is blurry pictures when clicking on them, and it was fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling Skype from Microsoft Store
I just reinstalled the Skype app from the Microsoft Store after getting the "blurry blown up thumbnail" issue. After the uninstalling / reinstalling, the issue is resolved. (I click a thumbnail in chat, it expands and is blurry, then it re-renders within about 1 second to a readable resolution as it loads the actual file instead of the thumbnail.)
For reference, version now reads:
Skype version 188.8.131.52
Application version 184.108.40.206

Coming just recently from Win7 this has made Skype just useless for messaging. Is Slack better in this regard?

Zooming, rotating, and other functions that my preferred image viewer has and I know how to use are missing. On top of the issue that switching between viewing the image and reading the comments is ****, I do not get notified in any way when I receive a message while viewing an image. Of course, the same applies to different media types like videos.
I too am a developer myself (frontend web development), and I'd consider not being able to change the viewer a live critical bug. Please accept that this is a serious issue that has to be fixed soon.
Absolutely agree with all the comments. At work we exchange pictures a lot, and they are often smaller, than full-screen window. It is essential to see them original size on open.
The lack of zoom controls is one issue, which could be fixed in app, as the other comment suggests.
However, the bigger issue with this to me is that almost every time sometime sends me an image, I want to open the image and look it while reviewing their messages about the image. I need to refer to both back and forth, and displaying the image in the same single Skype window on top of the chat makes this impossible. (This is related to the NEED for multiple chat windows.)
I also almost always end up closing/minimizing Skype instead of closing the image.
My preference would be to open the image in the default viewer, as this suggestion states. But just opening a preview in a separate but still built-in-to-Skype window (with zoom controls) would also work.

I mostly get pictures that are smaller than my screen and when opened they are zoomed in and completely blurry. At the very least the built in viewer should support zooming in/out and show the original size when possible by default. Using a default system viewer would be even better.
