Bring back USERNAMES
Allow us to change Skype username!
Thank you all who voted for this request! We have recently made changes which should allow you to see your Username. On Skype 8 You can see it in Settings > Account & Profile under Skype Name field.
In case you created an account using email or phone number you will see your username as live:emailid or live:uniqueidentifier.
No exact release date is available but we are working on adding support to allow users to customize their user name. I’ll keep you posted as we move closer to release

This change would make available the ability to change your Skype name from an old one to a new one. All that you might need is a confirmation sent out to the email of the person trying to change their Skype name.
Of course. If the idea of permanent name is to protect account ID, there is no way it must be permanent as long as the owner can verify a code from their phone or email.
I need mine changed because of harassment. A bad person that you block can still stalk with another ac. If your id still the same.
Go back to being able to pick your skype name and not live: xxxxxxx
Even when an alias email is created the skype name remains the same and you are therefore unable to go anonymous if the skype name generated for you is your real name, wich is the case for many ppl." email@example.com" might give you "live:first.last" as a skype name for example. I want to be able to change my skype name or hide it on my alias email.
This is so stupid Microsoft!!! Random numbers as a username, seriously! Wish you never bought Skype, everything worked perfectly before that.
Dang this is so necessary !! I use my old username but its so silly that I don't want to share it with my co workers! Come on skype add this asap!
I just wanted to create a new Skype account for work purposes, but my Skype name is a row of random letters and numbers (not even email) and it's unchangeable. It looks like Skype is in 2010, not 2020
when MS first asked users to link accounts, there was option to unlink it in case you had multiple skype accounts (paid family vs free personal accounts). So if the user had made a mistake of linking the wrong account, they could fix it. Which project manager thought it was a great idea to remove that option??? Now you are telling are there are "many blockers both technical and legal" preventing to bring back a simple option? This seems like an excuse to hoard user data. If a company like Google allows users to unlink youtube account from their main google account, why don't Microsoft do the same for skype anymore?!

I made my account when I was young and now that I'm older my Skype username is really immature. There should be an option to change the Skype username
It's now 2020 - can you please enable Skype name changes already?
If you had just a single person working on this they would most probably have it ready for production within 90 days.
For me this alone make Skype entirely unusable. My identity is sacrosanct, and Microsoft needs to start taking that to heart.
we shouldn't be locked into a name people change and grow and in my case i ran from someone and he is part of the Skype name that i cant change now i have to delete my Microsoft account make a new email all to start fresh
Remove the CID silly username. NOT professional. I will be forced to use another service
Bring back usernames.

Don’t show Skype ID as live:.cid.... instead show the ID as live:.cid.Username@skypeids.com
Created a new Microsoft account to only have it somehow link to my old account.. Great, good luck trying to be professional. Looks like Microsoft will never let us grow up!

I agree! The user name provided is not what I would choose.
Ability to change username
I legally changed my name. I can update everything else in my life, but not Skype. Social security, credit cards, driver's license, deeds and titles, mortgage, passport, employment records, insurance policies, every online account and service... but not Skype. >:|

Editing the username seems like a really simple feature. Some times, usernames become 'dated' and should be changed...
Any update for this? It's very frustrating to have a username from an email I used in the 8th grade still displayed as my Skype username. You could at least give users an option not to display it on their profiles...
