Rethink message status feedback: message delivered time, messaged viewed time, contact last seen/online time
People need to know the status of their messages. Is it sent so that I may go offline? Is it delivered so that the recipient may see it? When did they see it? When were they last online, so that I may (not) already have a response? -- People communicate via TCP, not UDP. ;)
And of course, we're all having very different people in our lives which needs to be adressed: What information I share with whom should be configurable by contact or group and a general setting, and be immediately visible in a conversation. Perhaps mutual configuration settings would be a way to think of this: "Show my last online time when they show their last online time." And even e-mails have some sort of "message was read" mechanism.
Skype had a weakness here in the past, so instead of just wanting something back I propose to rethink message status feedback.
Change "last seen" to show actual date+time+timezone, instead of vague "days ago" (even, when contact was last online months or years ago)

It would be additionally good to be able to delay or schedule messages until those we are sending the message to are available.
Since you are now able to see IF someone saw your message, it would be nice if you could add a time stamp when they read it. Of course only for users that activated their reading receipts.
GDPR dictates that I should be in full control of my information. I'm quite sure EU will consider skype an application for text, voice and video communication, anything not needed for those basic features should be optional and opt-in...do it now, because it will be much more expensive to fix it in 30 days wich GDPR stipulates.
The time and date the Skype Contact was last ONLINE is very important feature to have in Skype 8. Classic Skype version 7 for Desktop on Windows 10, 8.1 and 7 did it perfectly!
Read Receipts will probably arrive in your device soon. It will only work if your comtact is also on the new skype.
