Use of audio codec from earlier Skype platforms (prior to sale to MS, or Skype 7 at least!) Musicians who use this service for teaching and rehearsing cannot approach the audio quality of old Skype or
current FaceTime even with high quality microphones.

I run a volunteer group once a week for blind people. It uses a phone teleconference, and I have been using pre-8 skype for it with good voice quality. I had no confidence in 8, so held off till I got tired of the persistent nagging. I tried it for one call and the reactions among my group varied from it sounding like I was in a tunnel, to not being intelligible at all. Please pay attention to the audio quality of 8 and future versions. It is just depressing that you add features no one wants at the expense of fundamental product quality.
PS. This voice problems has been going on for 6 years or more.
Am using my smartphone earphone and it works. But on my headset they don't work. It works on Zoom. Skype real needs to work on voice. I can't even barely hear the people talk. I just message and use viber or zoom.
To give another example, I have a Plantronics Backbeat pro headset that has its own Bluetooth dongle. If I play music through it the sound is phenomenal. If I talk on Skype, it switches to some in-built codec that is really horrible! Please fix this issue.
