Bring back split view
Allow me to keep my recents/contacts separate and open a new window for every conversation I have
I’m happy to say that we’ve enabled this feature for all Skype for Windows 10 users in version 8.34+ available from Microsoft Store. To find out more about split view check out this link: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34880/how-do-i-use-split-window-view-in-skype

Please bring this back before the forced upgrade as I must stay on Windows 7 due to business reasons... but i refused to move to SkypeHate due to this and losing the ability to put people into special contact lists
I HATE Skype 8 and here's why:
• It's bulky. There's no split screen option and no option to remove the window where the chats take place, and all the chats are in the same big window. BRING BACK SPLIT SCREEN!
• It's annoying. All of the chats you have going are in the same window and you have to keep searching them out to locate the one you want. Bring back chats in separate windows.
• No online indicator. I have faves set up for a reason, yet I can never tell if one of them is online or not because you took that away. There is no indicator that shows their online status. Bring it back!
• Lastly, I preferred the old layout of the contacts, rather than a tab for them and another for chats. I could find people easier with the names that I had given them, rather than the so called Skype name that you now have. By the way, my skype name has never been live:(first part of my email). Please change it back! Allow us to change names of our contacts so we can find them easier!
Split (individual) windows are great for multiple conversations at work, and being small windows it means I still have space for other work things on my desktop. BUT... current Skype design uses lots of white space so less chat text fits in the small windows. Can we have a "condensed" option for these split windows, so that they have smaller fonts, less white space, small emoticons etc.?
Bring back split window feature and compact view, where you can have multiple chats open at once and see all chats as separate windows. Why would you even get rid of this feature?
This is a show stopper for me. In an online collaborative job I often have more than one chat window open at the same time. To have to click onto each chat every time I need to see a new messages is just not feasible. I will not use Skype 8 without multiple chat windows. We will consider using another chat platform as a team if this is not catered for in Skype 8 and 7 is discontinued.

i regretted upgrading as soon as i couldnt split the window. i need to go back to the old version.
Great idea. I liked and used a lot multiple chat windows. That allowed me to quickly switch over among several chat with no effort, ALT+TAB keys were enough. No time was wasted and no mouse were mandatory to go back and forth as it's in the current Skype version.
Please bring back split view as it was in the past.

This is apparently in the works, and chief designer Peter Skillman has shown screenshots that show multiple chat windows working on a prototype.
Of course, this needs to be coupled with a proper compact mode so that we have enough screen real-estate to display multiple chats.
How long this takes to get into the deployed product is another matter, and it's wise to remember that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a rigged demo...
PLEASE bring back the ability to have multiple chat windows open. I use Skype to communicate with my team and it is much easier to have each conversation in its own window rather than switch back and forth.

Excelant Skype! Another working on it.
I agree and open a new window for every conversation was one of the best things that was in the older version. now Skype 8 has gone down hill very fast and I found most of my friends have switch to another chat program.
BRING BACK MULTI CHAT WINDOWS!!!!
It would be great if you can add Split View feature w/c is also available in the old skype version.
I can't do multi-tasking without the split window. My work requires chatting to different people, so, split window is very convenient for me.
This has been a staple of messengers ever since ICQ and MSN Messenger back in the day. I'm baffled by how they got this so completely wrong.
Without this feature Skype feels crippled, bring back separate chat windows and not only for win10 users

it's coming on UWP version (so Windows 10 only): see here: https://mspoweruser.com/microsoft-may-bring-back-skype-split-windows-view-mode-concept-videos/

This is a small glimmer of hope - MS have said that they will be restoring this feature, and the chief designer (@peterskillman) on Twitter has shared screen shots of a prototype with separate windows for multiple chats.
Now all we need is a true compact mode, so we can see a decent amount of text in each window. (I know, I'm never happy.)

I strongly support this idea. Being able to keep many conversations in different windows is a very basic feature on a desktop. Basically this is how you use an IM app on a desktop.
